September Updates: Unlimited Search, Faster Alerts, and AI Matching

Sep 1, 2025

Happy Labour Day! As we enjoy the last long weekend of summer, I've made some changes to MapleStack that I think you're going to love. If you're one of those people checking job boards on a holiday (no judgment — I do it too), you're in for a treat.

Unlimited Search: Because Why Not?

Let's talk about the biggest change first: search limits are dead.

Here's what I've learned from watching thousands of job searches: the best job seekers are relentless. They refine their searches, try different keywords, explore various locations. Some of you search 50+ times a day when you're in the zone. And you know what? I'm here to support that.

So as of today, search all you want. No limits. No restrictions. For everyone.

Search 10 times or 1000 times — Whatever it takes. The goal is to help you find your next role faster. Speaking of fast ...

Speed Upgrade: Because Being First Matters

Here's a fun fact: the average tech job gets 50 applications in the first 24 hours and 200+ by day three. By the time most job boards show you a "new" posting, it's already ancient history.

Not anymore. I've significantly improved our job fetching engine. We now check company career pages multiple times per day, and new positions appear on MapleStack within hours of being posted. Sometimes within minutes.

You'll notice more "Posted 2 hours ago" timestamps. That's not a bug — that's the new normal.

Making AI Matching Seamless

AI-powered job matching has been part of MapleStack for months through our "Generate Match Score" button. But now, it's getting even better.

Now, if you're a subscriber with job alerts enabled and a resume on file, every job in your alert emails automatically includes:

  • Your match percentage
  • Key reasons why you're a good fit (or not)
  • Skills overlap analysis
  • Experience alignment

The best part? High-scoring jobs (75%+ match) can be automatically saved to your account, so even if you miss the email, you won't miss the opportunity.

Note: AI-powered matching is a premium feature available only with an active subscription.

Alert Frequencies That Match Your Vibe

Different job seekers have different needs. Someone unemployed might want instant notifications. Someone casually looking might prefer a weekly digest.

Our old system? Daily or nothing.

The new system offers everything from every 5 minutes to weekly:

  • Every 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes (requires active subscription)
  • Hourly, or every 2, 3, 4, 6, or 12 hours (requires active subscription)
  • Daily (the classic, available to everyone)
  • Weekly (for the patient ones, available to everyone)

Yes, you can really get alerts every 5 minutes. During peak posting times (usually Tuesday/Wednesday mornings), this can give you a genuine edge.

Auto-Save: Never Lose a Great Job Again

We've all been there. You see a perfect job in an email, think "I'll apply to that later," and then can never find it again.

If you enable auto-save in your preferences, jobs that score 75% or higher on the match scale are automatically saved to your account. You can adjust the threshold or turn it off entirely — your choice.

Since launching this in beta, users have auto-saved an average of 3-4 high-match jobs per week that they might have otherwise missed.

The Technical Stuff (For the Curious)

For those wondering how we made this possible:

  1. Batch Processing: Match calculations now run in parallel batches of 5, dramatically reducing processing time
  2. Smart Caching: Match results are cached and only recalculated when your resume or preferences change
  3. Exponential Backoff: If our AI service has issues, the system retries intelligently instead of failing
  4. Performance Metrics: We now track every aspect of the matching pipeline to ensure it stays fast

The result? We can process hundreds of job alerts with full matching in under 10 seconds.

What's Next

I'm already working on the next round of improvements:

  • Company insights — Know more about who you're applying to
  • Application tracking — Finally, a simple way to manage your job hunt
  • Better search relevance — Making sure the best matches appear first
  • More jobs — Continuously adding new companies to our index

But for now, I want to make sure these changes are working well for everyone.

Quick Start Guide

Want to take advantage of these new features? Here's your 5-minute setup:

For Everyone (Free & Paid):

  1. Search without limits — No restrictions, search all you want
  2. Set up daily or weekly alerts — Stay informed at your pace

For Subscribers:

  1. Upload or update your resume — This powers the AI matching engine
  2. Set your job preferences — Help the AI understand what you're looking for
  3. Adjust your alert frequency — From every 5 minutes to weekly
  4. Enable auto-save — Never lose a high-match opportunity
  5. Enjoy automatic match scores — See your compatibility with every job

Let's Talk

These changes represent months of work and feedback from hundreds of users. But the real test is whether they help you find your next opportunity faster and with less friction.

I read every email personally. If something's not working, or if you have ideas for what would make your job search easier, hit reply and let me know.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to close my laptop and try to enjoy what's left of the long weekend. But knowing me, I'll probably end up checking if the new job fetcher found anything interesting...

Happy hunting!

P.S. — Why push updates on Labour Day? Well, it IS Labour Day — what better day to help people find better work? Plus, September through November is traditionally the busiest hiring season. I wanted you to have these tools before the rush, not after. Consider it my Labour Day gift to job seekers everywhere. 🍁
